It's that time of the year again, one could swear that it's only a couple weeks ago that I was writing the 2023 list yet here we are again, a year later, starting to think that time as a concept is nothing but a scam invented by car manufacturers to convice us that perfectly fine cars are suddently outdated. Conspiracy theories aside, besides being an immense year for me personally, 2024 has also been a wild and, to an extent, bizarre year for music. From Kanye dropping what are arguably his worst two albums to date, to Drake leaking his willy before getting stepped on by Kendrick in their feud, to Diddy being exposed as the number one baby oil consumer in the world (for all the wrong reasons that is), to confirmation that One Direction will never reunite due to Liam's death, to Eminem releasing his final album thankfully, to Taylor Swift shamlessly blocking fellow artists inlcuding Billie and Charli by releasing fifty odd versions of the same album... and that’s just scratching the surface of the chaos.
And throught it all, music has been a steady companion, whether soundtracking moments of joy, providing solace during the lows, fueling my energy as I obliterate my muscles at the gym, or offering a much-needed escape from the madness. 2024, like its predecessors, has been no shortage of incredible albums. Honorable mentions go to Chat Pile for their sophomore album with Cool World, Tyler the creator for stepping up his lyrical game in CHROMAKOPIA, Floating Points revisiting his IDM roots in Cascade, Denzel Curry reviving his grimmy Memphis rap style in King of the Mischievous South, and Mach-Hommy dropping what might be his best album yet with #RICHAXXHAITIAN.
Unfortunately, this year, work and life engagements have kept me too busy to write about each album individually, as I’ve done in previous years. I will get to it if I ever find time and motivation to do it, but for now, it's going to stay like this.
Now, without further ado, let’s dive into the top 10:
